David Byrne (born May 14, 1952, in Dumbarton, Scotland) is an American musician and artist. He is perhaps best known as a founding member and the principal songwriter of the new wave band Talking Heads, who were active between 1974 and 1991. Since then, Byrne has released his own solo projects on record, and worked in a variety of media, including film, photography, opera, and internet-based projects. His achievements have been recognized by Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe awards. He currently lives in New York City.

David Byrne (born 6 April 1947) is an Irish senior counsel, former Attorney-General of Ireland and former EU Commissioner. In December 2006 Byrne was appointed as Chancellor of Dublin City University.

Byrne was educated at Newbridge College, Co. Kildare, University College Dublin and King's Inns, Dublin. He was called to the Bar in 1970 and practised law in the Irish and European Courts. During his student days in Dublin, he founded the Free Legal Advice Centre, a student run organisation providing legal aid to citizens in association with the legal profession.

He became a Senior Counsel in 1985. He practised in both the Irish courts and the European Court of Justice and also served as a member of the International Court of Commercial Arbitration from 1990-97.

In 1997 he became Attorney-General to the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrat coalition government. As one of the negotiators of the Good Friday Agreement in April 1998, he drafted and oversaw the major constitutional amendments required by that agreement, which were approved by Referendum in May 1998. Mr Byrne also advised on the constitutional amendments necessary for Ireland's ratification of the Amsterdam Treaty.

He was nominated to the European Commission in September 1999, serving as Ireland's EU Commissioner and had responsibility for Health & Consumer Protection. He continued in that role until replaced as Ireland's Commissioner by Charlie McCreevy in 2004. Currently David Byrne is a patron of Health First Europe.

David Stuart Byrne (born 5 March 1961 in Hammersmith, London) is an English former professional footballer. He is currently coach and caretaker manager of the main team at Swindon Town, mainly due to his success in managing the youth team. He also works as a sports journalist and occasional radio commentator with Gordon Sparks on BBC Radio Devon.

Byrne was a winger and began his career with Gillingham. He moved to Millwall on August 4, 1986 for a fee of £5,000. He joined Cambridge United on loan on September 8, 1988 and Blackburn Rovers on loan on February 23, 1989. On March 16, 1989 he joined Plymouth Argyle on a free transfer. He later played for Bristol Rovers, Watford, Reading and Fulham before joining Scottish side Partick Thistle.

He joined Walsall on loan in February 1994 and after leaving Partick played for St Mirren, Ayr United and Albion Rovers where he was player-coach in 1996. He later coached the Plymouth Argyle youth team and was appointed as Director of Football at Plymouth College.

In November 2006 he was assisting Ian Atkins on a non-contract basis at Torquay United. On November 28, 2006 Byrne left his post at Plymouth College when he was named as the new Youth Team Manager at Swindon Town working under former Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Sturrock .

After Sturrock left Swindon to take the role of managing his previous club, Plymouth, Byrne took temporary charge of Swindon. It is rumoured that Byrne will be rejoining Sturrock at some point.

David Byrne is an English-born South African soccer coach and former professional player. He was in 1982 and 1984 a top ten scorer in the North American Soccer League.

The son of former England international and West Ham United star Johnny Byrne, David played five NASL seasons with the Atlanta Chiefs (1980, '81), and the Toronto Blizzard (1982, '83, and '84). He finished 1982 ninth in scoring with 39 points in 32 games. He lead the league in assists as Blizzard teammates (and fellow South Africans) Neill Roberts and Ace Ntsoelengoe finished seventh and eighth respectively in scoring. He finished 1983 sixth with 44 points in 29 games and 1984 seventh with 37 points in 20 games. Bryne was named to the NASL All-League Second Team in both 1983 and 1984. He was the league's 35th all time scorer with 142 points in 135 games.

A native of Cape Town, Byrne played indoor soccer in the original MISL for the Minnesota Strikers during the mid-80s and was the league's 11th leading scorer for the 1987-88 season. He later played for the Wichita Wings.

Byrne also played briefly in Portugal. He played 14 times for Estoril in 1983-1984 scoring once, and 19 games and 1 goal for Belenenses in 1984-1985. He played in South Africa with Hellenic in 1994. At this time he won an U-23 cap as an overaged player and was twice called up to the national side but failed to win any caps. For the past decade Byrne has been an assistant coach with South African clubs. He has his first stint with Port Elizabeth side Michau Warriors, in 1997. He 1998-99 he was player-coach of Santos. In 2001 he became assistant coach of Black Leopards and then in 2003 the club's caretaker manager. After that he managed Avendale Athletico before being dismissed in November, 2004.

David's brother Mark Byrne is a former pro player, manager in South Africa and former head coach of Italian club Udinese's coaching academy.

David Byrne (born November 14, 1979) in Dublin is an Irish footballer who currently plays in midfield for Athlone Town.

Byrne started his career with Shelbourne before a move to Scottish Premier League side Dundee United. During his season with United he made just one substitute appearance, playing the final few minutes at Parkhead in a 4-1 defeat to Celtic. Byrne moved back to Shelbourne, where he played for three years, picking up a league winners' medal. Spells at St Pat's - where he won an FAI Cup runners-up medal - and Derry City followed, before his move to Longford in January 2006. Byrne moved to Athlone at the start of the 2007-08 season.
