Paul Reubens’ bow-tie wearing, determinedly weird alter ego Pee Wee Herman returns in this free-form, supremely wacky comedy. Pee Wee appears here as a small-town farmer (?!) with dreams of becoming a successful performer. His dreams seem to be answered when a violent storm strands a circus on his doorstep. Kris Kristofferson plays gamely along as the circus ringmaster (with Susan Tyrrell as his three-inch-tall wife), and Danny Elfman buoys the action with his whimsical score.
